Apple Vision Pro announced that it would allow the creation of AR content using Unity tools since its announcement.

And recently, they have released a beta SDK available for testing via Xcode.

Apple Vision Pro Developer SDK Available
Apple has released a beta SDK for Vision Pro development. Installation and testing are possible via Xcode, and news indicates that Apple has opened access to some developers in key countries to experience the hardware in advance.

According to Apple's official blog, it seems they will open up the experience of developing with Vision Pro via Unity next month (perhaps July?)..

It appears that a beta experience application page for Vision Pro development has also been made available via the Unity page, extending its reach.

Unity’s beta program for spatial creation

UNITY’S BETA PROGRAM FOR CREATING SPATIAL EXPERIENCES
Create spatial experiences for Apple’s visionOS with Unity. Apply for the beta now.

Unity refers to this as Creating Spatial Experiences, and thanks to Apple Vision Pro, it feels like the terminology for fragmented spatial content development is finally being organized.

At one point, I used Unity's AR Foundation to create content and also produced free content to distribute as tutorials, but I was a bit shaken by a series of events and hadn't been publishing them.. I'm thinking of publishing them again this time.

By joining this program, Unity has outlined the following process that creators need to prepare in advance.

  1. Get familiar with visionOS through more than 30 developer sessions at Apple's WWDC23, including two sessions on how to build for visionOS using Unity.
    1. Bring your Unity VR apps into a fully immersive spatial environment.
    2. Create immersive Unity apps
  2. Upgrade your project to Unity 2022 LTS. This is required to build for visionOS.
  3. If you haven't downloaded it yet, download AR Foundation and XR Interaction Toolkit to start building spatial applications.

Before seeing this content, I had only seen the Vision Pro announcement and hadn't been able to watch the other sessions in detail.. As expected of Apple, they prepared various sessions and content before launch that allow developers to speculate and gain experience with various things.

Although it hasn't been released yet.. there seems to be a lot to study if we want to develop properly.

I don't know if I'll be selected as a user of the beta program, but if I am, I think there will be a lot to study.
